Sincere thanks for the 3 nominations for the ice bucket challenge, - TopicsExpress

Sincere thanks for the 3 nominations for the ice bucket challenge, its nice to feel wanted and all that, but in the nicest way I wont be doing it. Do I feel guilty? Not really. A quick calculation and up and down the years Ive probably given 10,000 hours of unpaid voluntary work for charities and community groups such as St.John Ambulance, NSPCC, local arts and youth projects plus 20 odd years of charitable stuff thru work on the radio. I continue to do my bit and I love it. I feel real uneasy about saying that, as charitable undertakings in my book should be all dignified, refined and without fanfare. (Preachy alert!) People, if your youre doing the ice bucket challenge, please do it for the right reasons and not because the fella you sat next to in Double Geography has nominated you. Read up, chat to sufferers, give a couple of hours of your time. Your time is the most precious thing you have. I would hazard a guess that throwing ice over your head and giving a tenner wont mean as much to people with MND/ALS as you spending a few hours online reasearching, then physically doing something to help sufferers within your community. Just to say, Im not bored of the ice bucket challenge and wouldnt care if it fills my facebook wall for the next 5 years. Its fun, incredibly simple, brilliantly creative and open to everyone. But you dont have to do it. Do your own thing.
