Sing joyfully to the LORD, you righteous; it is fitting for the upright to praise him. Praise the LORD with the harp; make music to him on the ten-stringed lyre. Sing to him a new song; play skillfully, and shout for joy. For the word of the LORD is right and true; he is faithful in all he does. The LORD loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of his unfailing love. By the word of the LORD were the heavens made, their starry host by the breath of his mouth. From heaven the LORD looks down and sees all mankind; from his dwelling place he watches all who live on earth--he who forms the hearts of all, who considers everything they do. No king is saved by the size of his army; no warrior escapes by his great strength. A horse is a vain hope for deliverance; despite all its great strength it cannot save. But the eyes of the LORD are on those who fear him, on those whose hope is in his unfailing love, to deliver them from death and keep them alive in famine. We wait in hope for the LORD; he is our help and our shield. In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name. May your unfailing love rest upon us, O LORD, even as we put our hope in you. (Psalm 33 NIV) Throughout the ages and even up to the present, kings and emperors have set themselves up as gods and demanded that their subjects worship them. But there is none worth worshipping, save One. That One is the LORD, God Almighty, Jehovah, Yahweh, the Great I AM. He is the Creator. He is the Sustainer. He is the Provider. He is the One called our Heavenly Father and He is the One who promises never to leave or forsake us. He came in the flesh to earth in the person of Jesus and opened the way for us to have a relationship with Him. So it is fitting that we sing joyfully to Him! It is right that we praise His name. It is good that we honor and fear Him, for His strength is greater than anything we might imagine. It is our calling as believers in Him to honor and respect Him in all ways so that others can see Him through us and turn to Him themselves to seek out this blessed relationship. So then, I ask today, who is your God? Is He the One who made the starry heavens? Did He pour the waters of the seas out of the palms of His hands? Did He speak the command and all creation take place? Can He preserve and protect you by His great strength? Is He your help and shield, the One in whom you place your trust? If not, then youve settled for something less than that to which you were called! You were called by Jesus into perfect fellowship with the God of Heaven and earth, Almighty God! In reality, settling for a God who is anything less than Jehovah is settling for nothing at all! In Him our hearts rejoice as we trust in His holy name.
