Singapore is a city, where change is the only constant. With the constant need for development, our little city evolves overnight Collapsing older buildings with newer ones And venturing in to the sea for bigger grounds A nation built upon intangible remnants of memories of what used to be tangible objects I see Wheelock properties over my old school grounds, the place where i ran and tripped, where i closed countless mimosas and watched a mantis and grasshopper fought to its death Deafening cheers echoed like countless ghostly images in my mind. I walk the ground of my own land like a foreigner With real foreigners around me Am I any different? Maybe I am, because I am a child of a foreign land where roots stem to the cells in our brains Where am I? What am I? and What the hell am I doing here? I am an Asian body programmed with westernized ideas and influences. Seeking attachment is a natural way of living With a physical body, I am attached to my handcell Information sent through the World Wide Web and nothing else. I am not a child of WW1 or WW2 but the WWW. Glued to the screen and flooded with codings, I lost sense of the physical world that I am in Slowly I grew connected to events and people miles away, than centimeters apart. Change is the only constant in Singapore. And I want to thank all the local artists for inspiring Through them Ive learnt that the Singapore identity exists beyond these physical entities... It lies in the spirits of our community.
