Singers..... Please Dont be jaded. Please Fight ego.. The world doesnt actually revolve around you (shock! Stardom doesnt come to all who demand it :( ) Ive worked with so many different singers over the past 2 weeks and observed people really great at their craft who for one reason or another (I suspect an odd combination of insecurity and ego) seem to have walls up and struggle with an attitude towards mere musicians and take so much for granted. sure its a tough gig with extra pressure. I used to do it a lot. but more recently in my career being just a musician.... Well we work damn hard at our craft and often.. For less pay. I hate that the music industry often reflects the capitalist corporate world where some people are more equal than others. I did a gig very recently where a singer didnt even say hello to the band (this is rare and extreme). They Did a considerable less amount if work (as there were multiple singers in the gig) complained about the band.... And got payed more!! Fortunately the band made great jokes in set break and had a hell of a time coping with this nonsense as musos often do. I have dear friends who would tell me thats the way it is Graham.. Get used to it! . But yall know Gra Gra always got somethin ta say. To be clear... Ive also worked with brilliant singers in Sydney who are humble . take the pressure well and treat the band like family... Because thats what we iz yall. And you can feel it. Feels great . to conclude: Granted we aint got a gig without a singer. But on the other hand .... Theres a heck of a lot of undiscovered singing brilliance out there. Hec maybe theyd even do a gig for free ;). Just be cool. Im done ranting. Time for some M4 traffic and learning rep.... learning rep.... Learning rep......
