Singing gentle songs to your baby is all about soothing and - TopicsExpress

Singing gentle songs to your baby is all about soothing and comforting them to sleep. So why are lullabies often so sad and even at times dark? What right minded child will be soothed by knowing that when the wind blows they will fall out of a whacking great tree? And the Spanish version is even worse. It translates as Sleep baby, sleep now, or the bogeyman will come and eat you up!! Hows that for relaxing?! My two favourite lullabies to sing to my little pickle at bedtime are: Danny Kaye singing Ill take you dreaming. Not only is it Danny Kaye singing, who has one of the warmest voices around, like a sonorous cuddle, but also I love the lyrics. Its not about leaving the child to enter the world of sleep on their own and seeing their parent on the other side so to speak, its about the parent taking their child on a magical trip through dreamland, together, which chimes in particularly nicely with cosleeping in our case. The other is Madonnas Little Star, as sung by Lori Carsillo. Just gorgeous and makes me tear up sometimes when gazing at my babys beautiful little face as I sing it to her. I decided to add another one to my repertoire recently by re jigging the words to rockabye baby. It goes like this: Rockabye baby in mummys/daddys arms, You can sleep soundly, safe from all harm,... With* Lullabies sung and stories all read Well cuddle close all cosy in bed. *extra note required from original in order to scan ;-) Feel free to use this, its open source :-) Xx
