Single Ladies, do you rent or own a home of your own in which you are responsible for taking care of everything. Not that married women don’t experience that burden. I bet the learning curve on the care of your appliances and air conditioning equipment, much less your car is somewhat daunting. Please don’t sit in a bunched up heap with gigantic tears looming near the edge of your eyelids, Vodka and Cheetos in hand. Your Air Conditioner needs the same kind of tender care as you give your cars maintenance. In general, on a monthly basis, you need to complete two small tasks. Number 1 - change or clean your filter, if you have a pet, the hair will reduce the efficiency of your system if the filter isn’t changed monthly. Saving you money for those new shoes you’ve been gazing at. Number 2 – check and clean the condensate drain. This is a simple task. Your air handler (the indoor unit) has a PVC elbow on the outside with a cap on the top. Pull that cap off and simply pour 1/4 cup of white vinegar down the drain and let it sit for ½ hour then flush with hot water. This will cut down on gunk and algae clogging up the pipes. Pat the air handler afterward and tell it how much you love it. As a reward for taking such great care of your system you should have a favorite drink or desert, followed by a vigorous jog around the block. Lastly, your system needs one of those intense check ups similar to what women go through on a yearly basis. The only difference is, we promise your Air Handler will not have to put its feet up in stirrups. Now honey, this won’t hurt I promise.
