Sinn Féin chooses Lynn Ní Bhaoigheallain for Dublin in EU elections Sinn Féin chose its candidate for the Dublin constituency for next year’s EU elections at a convention in the city centre on Sunday. There were two candidates for nomination: Lynn Ní Bhaoigheallain from Tallaght and Ryan Fitzgerald from the inner city, with Ní Bhaoigheallain coming out ahead. Speaking after the selection, Gerry Adams TD, referred to the proud tradition of struggle in the city and the centenary of the 1913 Lockout. He spoke of the vision of those Dubliners. “It was one of freedom, justice and equality for all. It was a vision of a fairer Ireland. And Sinn Féin’s message of fairness and equality is finding ever-greater resonance among citizens who are weary at the inability of the establishment parties — Fianna Fail, Fine Gael and Labour, to rise to the challenges that now face our country. Sean Crowe TD who seconded the nomination of Lynn recalled standing in the European Election in 1999 and said when asked by a journalist what the 21,000 plus vote meant for Sinn Fein in Dublin " 21 is the key to the door it makes the task easier and gives the electorate the confidence that we can deliver this seat the next time out. Mary Lou Mac Donald used that key in the next election and walked in that door and took her seat in the European Parliament. I now want see a Sinn Fein candidate from Dublin moving in permanently to that place. A republican voice that will articulate the needs and aspirations of Dublin and its people My choice for that responsible and vitally important job a voice for all of Dublin is a Tallaght born woman Lynn Ní Bhaoigheallain. Sinn Féin will stand four EU candidates. Sitting MEP, Martina Anderson will contest in the North, while Carrickmacross councillor, Matt Carthy will stand in the North West and North Leinster constituency. Liadh NíRiada will contest the South constituency and today’s convention chose Lynn Ní Bhaoigheallain for Dublin. Ends
