Sir Jamshedji Jeejeebhoy Agiary. Pune Cantonment. Construction of Fire Temples is believed to be of the greatest deeds a Zoroastrian can perform in life. a dedicated Zoroastrian like Sir Jamsetjee Jejeebhoy considered it a part of his duty to construct Fire Temples. Sir Jamsetjee constructed Agiaries in a number of towns and cities and donated generously for carrying out repairs out to such houses of worship in various places. In 1842, Poonas Leading Zoroastrians approached Sir Jamsetjee with a fervent request for construction of a Zoroastrian Fire Temple within the Camp area. Sir Jamsetjee readily acceded to this request and sanctioned the purchase of a suitable plot of land and construction of Fire Temple at the present site. Whilst agreeing to this request, Sir Jamsetjees advice to Poonas Zoroastrians was, It is my request that you should all serve the Enlightened One and pray every day with a pure hart, and if you visit the Fire Temple and pray daily, you may rest assured that you shall prosper in life and that God will help you to overcome any difficulties you may face in life. Sir Jamsetjee often said that his devotion to the precepts of Zoroastrianism were the key to his success. Sir Jamsetjee Jejeebhoy Agiary, Poona was consecrated on 29th November 1844 (Roj Ardibehest, Mah Khordad 1364 Y. Z.) . On this momentous Occasion, almost all Zoroastrians of Poona attended the inaugural ceremony, along with a number of prominent Parsi Sethias from Bombay. In addition to the main Fire Temple building and the wells, Sir Jamsetjee also constructed large dining halls on the compound, as residential quarters for the Priests.
