Sir Nicholas George Winton, (born 1909) is a British humanitarian who organized in 1938-39 the rescue of 669 children, mostly Jewish, from Nazi-occupied Czechoslovakia on the eve of the Second World War. England allowed the Kindertransport, entry into the country of the children, as long as Winton could find homes for them. Winton did find homes for the children and arranged for their safe passage to Britain. He asked America to take some of the children but the Americans wouldnt take any. He could have rescued more if we had. His actions remained almost entirely unknown for 50 years until his wife found a document with a list of the children in his papers. In 1988, BBC reunited Winton without his knowledge with many of the rescued children on TV. In 2003 he was knighted and became Sir Nicholas. On 28 October 2014 he was awarded the highest honour of the Czech Republic, the Order of the White Lion, by Czech President Miloš Zeman. -Wikipedia & other sources Featured on 60 minutes, there is now a movement to nominate him for the Nobel Peace Prize. He just celebrated his 105th birthday
