Sir Peter’s letter to members & supporters: Dear Member I am writing to you to remind you of the importance of the by-election to the GSD’s earliest possible return to Government. Since I stood down as leader and we elected Danny Feetham as our leader, he (supported by the other elected members) has done a great job. He has both shown himself to be deeply committed to the historical values of our party, and provided effective and courageous opposition to an increasingly unpopular Government. This by-election is very important to the GSD. It is vital that you exercise your right to vote in favour of the GSD’s excellent candidate, Marlene Nahon. Marlene is a highly committed “new face” in Gibraltar politics. She is passionate about Gibraltar, as befits a daughter of the late Sir Joshua Hassan. Sir Joshua himself endorsed the GSD at the 1996 General Election when we were first elected into Government. I am therefore delighted that Marlene aspires to continue her father’s commitment to service of this community, and that she does so as part of the GSD. Many people are, once again, concerned about the direction and manner in which Gibraltar is being led. There is a clear feeling that many people now feel less secure. The GSLP/Liberals got into office by spin alone, and are governing by spin alone. Remember their election campaign theme that the Government’s finances were in a very bad state (despite record budget surpluses)? At the very same time they promised “everything to everyone”, and immediately on winning the election embarked on an explosion of increased Government spending! This by-election is the time to express our opinion on this shocking political behaviour, and that people in Gibraltar will not stand for being tricked.
