Sir RLB pursued independence in 1975-76 but was unsuccessful - TopicsExpress

Sir RLB pursued independence in 1975-76 but was unsuccessful because Dr Simeon Daniel and Nevisians wanted nothing to do with an Independent SKN. They preferred secession. Sir Kennedy came along and where Sir RLB was unable to come to an amicable agreement where Nevis felt equal and apart Sir Kennedy and Dr Simeon Daniel came together and brought us to Independence in 1983. They succeeded where Sir RLB failed. Now it seems that based on that fact some persons are still trying to convince the world that Sir RLB should be recognised as the father of Independence with little or no recognition being given to Sir Kennedy or Dr Daniel. If a man is dating a woman for 20 years and they break up and within 10 months after breaking up she becomes pregnant for another man should that man who dated the woman for 20 years be declared the father because he was there for 20 years dating her and preparing her for motherhood? Or should it be the man who succeeded where he couldnt or better still conceived where he couldnt? Frankly this debate does little for the edification of our young people. At the very least all three men namely Sir SLB, Sir Kennedy and Dr Simeon should all be at the least equally recognised for their contribution to our Independence. I am so dissappointed when i hear big intelligent people on the radio trying to perpetuate the notion that somehow Sir Kennedy and Dr Daniels contribution to Independence is not praise worthy and that all credit must be given to Sir RLB and him alone. Interestingly Sir RLB died in 1978 and we gained Independence in 1983. Stop confusing our children and give them the WHOLE truth and not just the truth to suit the survival or the propagandatious agenda of a political party.
