Sir Robert Smithhas raised concerns about misleading third party - TopicsExpress

Sir Robert Smithhas raised concerns about misleading third party websites which list premium rate telephone numbers for government services. It is important that people use official gov.uk websites to look up government phone numbers to avoid calling an expensive line set up by a third party for profit. A number of government bodies, such as the DVLA and Passport Office, are being targeted by rogue traders in this way. Commenting, Sir Robert said: I would encourage people to be careful when looking up contact details for government agencies online. A number of constituents have contacted me because they have used a telephone number which has led to an excessive charge for the call. Most government agencies will provide a contact number, such as an 0300 number, which will cost the same as a local call. The best way to avoid these rogue telephone lines is to use official gov.uk websites. May is Citizens Advice Scotland’s Scams Awareness Month and we all need to be careful to avoid rogue third party websites and phone lines. If you have had any concerns or have experienced difficulties when trying to contact government departments please contact Sir Robert’s constituency office on [email protected] or 01330 826549
