Sir Robert Watson -Watt (1892-1971) born in Brechin Scotland, inventor of RADAR, as a result of his non-school tie team`s early experiments at RAF Bawdsey Felixstowe, Suffolk, in 1935. The crucial use of the early warning system-that could detect foreign aircraft up to 100 miles from the South Coast-eventually contributed to the successful `Battle of Britain in Sept. 1940 together with the unrivalled tactical air combat leadership of Air Marshall Keith Park. NZ born Air Marshall Park was head of Fighter Command 10 Group (that successfully defended London and SE England) and became the `Defender of London with the heroic Allied pilots, outnumbered by the German Luftwaffe 3-1 and who saw their `Finest Hour.
