Sir Robert has welcomed the income tax cut announced in the Autumn Statement. Thanks to Liberal Democrats in Government people in West Aberdeenshire and Kincardine will benefit from a £825 income tax cut in April. The Autumn Statement revealed plans to let workers take home even more money before they pay any income tax. Raising the tax-free personal allowance to £10,000 - a tax cut of £700 - was on the front of the Liberal Democrat 2010 manifesto. However, by the end of this Parliament Liberal Democrats will have gone further and raised this allowance to £10,600. In Scotland this will lift at least 38,000 out of income tax altogether in 2015-16. It also means 2.13 million people will see an average gain of £94. Commenting, Sir Robert has said: “This tax cut is the real budget boost for working people and takes even more of those on low earnings out of income tax altogether. “The Liberal Democrats put tax cuts on the front page of our manifesto and delivered them - helping low and middle income families across Britain. David Cameron claimed that we couldn’t afford to lift the income tax threshold so far, it is thanks to Liberal Democrats in Government that people in the North East will benefit from this policy. “In the next Parliament we want to go further still by raising the personal allowance threshold to £12,500. This will help to ensure that we have a fair society as well as a strong economy, so that we can create greater opportunity for all.”
