Siri + Watson meet a nice-guy version of Skynet? Hojat says not to worry about the network waking up like Skynet -- as Stephen Hawking recently predicted -- but sentient distributed AI will be able to accomplish the kind of tasks a gigantic brain could achieve. So far Sentient Technologies has 15 patents -- 5 granted and 10 pending -- with the whole research team responsible for 70 patents and just as many research papers on AI, big data, cloud computing, and related areas. Reasoning and logic are one thing, but beyond that is true intelligence -- what we call sentience, Babak Hojat, cofounder and chief scientist at Sentient Technologies, tells EE Times. Sentience is being aware, having perceptions, being mindful, and has implications of autonomy, chief technology officer Nigel Duffy said in a video (below) that you really ought to watch to get the big picture. https://youtube/watch?v=sLIh_PwHkEI
