Sister Update - Well gang, it looks like things are better. My sis has been moved into a regular room at Mother Francis and as of two days ago she has been able to swallow food and drink. She is still on a pureed food diet, and she has to put thickener in her liquids but she is managing to get it down and keep it down. She can speak where you can clearly understand her but she still slurs her words and because her hearing is not quite right, she has no volume control. In other words...she is very loud! LOL! Her motor skills are much better but nowhere near where they should be. She can do simple things and is going through therapy daily in order to get better. Today she looked at me and said: Its terrible to have to re-learn everything again...just like a baby. I felt sorry for her, but I didnt let her see it. I just agreed and told her it would not be that bad. She has been able to stand and even walk down the hall a bit...but her bowels are not always cooperating with her and it makes any trip precarious...therefore she hasnt done very much of this. She is trying to work jigsaw puzzles and crosswords to improve her motor skills and I guess it is helping. Her spirits are up and she is counting the days to Christmas...hoping to be home by then. I doubt that will happen, but maybe at least by then she will be able to walk out onto the atrium patio area and get some fresh air. Thank you all for your prayers and support. Dont stop. We need it now as much as at the beginning of this. She still has a long way to go and the bills are piling up. She had no insurance, no retirement, and no savings. We have applied for emergency medicaid but nothing has come through. So, keep those positive thoughts headed our way. With a lot of love, luck, and prayer...maybe we will make it through this.
