Sisters of the Holy Family Founders’ Day Events November is a month for gratitude and thanksgiving for the many blessings God has bestowed upon His disciples. The public is invited to attend the events and activities in recognition and appreciation of the 172 years of service by the Society of the Sisters of the Holy Family and the 202nd anniversary of the birth of their Foundress, Venerable Henriette Delille. The Holy Family Sisters will be hosting the Annual Feeding of the Poor at Ozanam Inn, 843 Camp Street, New Orleans, on Saturday, November 1, 2014. A nutritious meal will be served from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. The Sisters, along with volunteers, will serve the meal and distribute personal care kits to the diners. On Saturday, November 15th, the Sisters will host an Eucharistic Celebration in honor of Venerable Henriette Delille at 4:00 p.m. at the Motherhouse, located at 6901 Chef Menteur Blvd. The celebrant will be the Very Reverend Philip Landry, Rector of the Cathedral of St. Louis King of France, and the local postulator for the canonization of Venerable Henriette Delille. Delille, a descendent of slaves, a native New Orleanian, and an evangelizer, founded the Sisters of the Holy Family in 1842. She, along with her companions, Juliette Gaudin and Josephine Charles began a ministry of educating the slaves, caring for the sick, the elderly and the marginalized of society. A Founder’s Day Mass celebrating 172 years of service will be held on November 21, at 5:00 p.m. at the Motherhouse. The Sisters of the Holy Family sponsor St. Mary’s Academy Elementary School and High School, founded in 1867, Lafon Nursing Facility founded in 1842 and St. John Berchmans Early Childhood Development Center, at the former orphanage for African American children. Other ministries include Delille Inn and St. John Berchmans Apartments for low-income seniors and several parish ministries in the state of Louisiana. For more information regarding any of the events and activities, contact the Motherhouse at (504) 241-3088.
