Sitka Center for Art and Ecology Art Invitational begins this morning at 10 am in Miller Hall at the World Forestry Center. Devon Mitchell, executive director of the Portland Child Art Studio, is a Sitka Artist and this year has used PCAS as her artistic medium. I wanted to salvage the paintings the kids left behind as the actual art material, use their visual language as the language I used in my pieces and take all the little bits of child art magic that I spend so much time photographing and weave them together into visual poetry - something that speaks to the space that PCAS is, what we discover there, and what we discover in the minds of children.
