Sitting here watching the birds at the feeder I see and saw a progression of survival. A large blue jay came in and drove off some small birds at the feeder than went to the ground to feed on the seeds that the small birds discarded, not to their liking. Soon I saw three large shadows approaching in formations. The jay moved just in time but not soon enough, he avoided two of the crows and the third one slashed him with his talon leaving a large bunch of down feathers and long feathers on the ground. The jay escaped in aerial skill as the other two crows were lining up for another run on the jay. The crows settled down to eat the seed at this point. Soon they leapt into the air as a sea gull came in in attack mode. Sea gull will eat seeds but lose interest quickly as they prefer protein . I a few minutes the jays were back but were to nervous to stay around. From out of nowhere the small wrens and others were back enjoying feeder city . What does all of this prove? Nothing really, just that birds will be birds!
