Sitting in the sunshine and remembering past Easter Sundays. One of my fondest memories was hearing Mrs. Vera Fugate play up from the grave He arose on the big foot pedals on the organ at Northside Baptist. Sonya Dick Morris eventually took over those duties and played it just as beautifully! Getting up way too early to go to the Sunrise Service at the flagpole at Science Hill Cemetery was special, too. It seemed I always got new white shoes to wear with my new dress...and often had gloves and a hat to match. After church, all my family would gather at Nannie and Papas home...the old stucco house next to the cemetery...for a most amazing dinner! There was always fried fish (to commemorate Jesus feeding the 5000) and baked ham, mustard potato salad, tons of deviled eggs, Nannies famous baked beans, bowls of vegetables and 5 or 6 different homemade pies. (Papa would always scrape off the meringue topping because he said it reminded him of cow slobbers!) My whole family would be there and usually my Uncle Doug would hide the first couple dozen eggs...under the peony bushes, along the little wooden white fence and even near the old outhouse. It seems the colors of the eggs in my straw Easter basket were so vibrant,,, sky blue, locust leaf green, daffodil yellow, phlox pink...brighter than any Ive seen in years. I never ate the ears of my chocolate bunnies and always gave the black jelly beans to Mommy. Wed end the day sitting on the front porch...even if it rained or was a little too cool...and I most always got to be the pilot of the porch swing. Such precious memories! 🙏⛪️🐰
