Sitting in the wagon was the emissary-agent of the current - TopicsExpress

Sitting in the wagon was the emissary-agent of the current Quandobizar ruler,Ambassador Mhnojdo Vahnay. Such were the appointments inside the wagon the road travel was very much softened. Mhnojdo still wore his thick coat. Though it had warmed appreciably as they descended into the lower country, it had not soaked into the marrow of Mhnojdo’s bones as yet. Age would do that, he thought to himself. As it had required him to be ensconced in this rolling pavilion. He sighed, and then chuckled. Once, there had been a time, when as much younger man and agent for his current sovereign’s parents, he had been on horse or a foot, and quite able to march his current company into the ground! But that was years ago. Then, he had looked on being in such as the wagon as a luxury. Now it was a Necessity! Mhnojdo laughed and reached for the cabinet where the wine was stored. Just as he was about to sip his poured drink from its carved ivory blue whorled cup, there was a rap on the wagon-pavilion’s window. Outside, “Beasty” G’moqwhe’s son, Ouaka, commander of the wagon’s escort, touched over his heart with his riding quirt, in salute. “Excuse me, uncle. We are stopping here for the rest of the day until early tomorrow morning. Water and forage are quite suitable hereabouts. There has been no sign of the particular Varii of this region,” he sniffed disdainfully. “Expect that might occur either tonight or sometime tomorrow. Well, happy to be of help!” Just like his father, Ouaka disliked Mhnojdo. It wasn’t for any directed at them incident. They were just among those who become a sour folk in certain others company. Ouaka flashed a smile that to Mhnojdo seemed like that which accompanies a sudden sharp pain. Mhnojdo gave his emissary’s smile return, as if all the questions asked in the previous thousand years, had been answered by Ouaka correctly, just then.
