Sitting in the waiting room at Weill Cornell about to have my semi-annual echocardiogram. In 2001 I had heart surgery blah blah blah. Anyway it is a bit of a creepy procedure having some technician poke and prod around your chest and back while you listen to the awful sounds of your heart whooshing and whirling. And it makes such a huge difference if the technician treats you with even a tad of gentleness. But I do have a funny anecdote. A number of years ago, I was having a check up with my cardiologist. She was a great doctor but not too show biz savvy. I was about to embark on a summer stock tour of Auntie Mame. I seriously asked her if she thought I had the stamina to undertake such a physically demanding role. She asked me with a very concerned look, Will you be lifting anything heavy? I replied Well, Ill be carrying the plot.
