Situation Vacant at Cinderhill Farm: Our home is on a tiny farm - TopicsExpress

Situation Vacant at Cinderhill Farm: Our home is on a tiny farm (8 acres) in the Forest of Dean, high above the River Wye, overlooking Offas Dyke and the Welsh border country. We are fortunate enough to live in some of the most beautiful countryside in Britain. Above our house are fields where rabbits and mice play. Below us are The Woods of Mystery and Exciting Twitchings. To the South of our house are our two fields and barn area, where there are compost heaps, long grasses, wildflower meadows, bluebell patches the size of a football pitch and a stream - all waiting to be investigated. To the north is another farm, more fields and more woods! We have a variety of animals here - pigs, sheep, dogs, barn cats, chickens and ducks. Some of these are free range. In fact at times many of them are free range, even when they arent meant to be... But they are all used to human and cat contact and are friendly, interested and interesting animals who would welcome you should you choose to visit them in their fields, too. Currently, we have a very special vacancy, which is for a House Cat. On our farm, House Cat is the only animal allowed across the threshold of the farmhouse (Ignore Tinkerell the lamb. She is a naughtybad and will soon be too fat to get under the field gate and then wont be an issue in the diningroom at all). The successful applicant must therefore be able to carry off - with great dignity - the entry and exit of the house by catflap while being watched enviously by assorted barn cats, springer spaniels, bottle-fed lambs and an assortment of chickens. We have several catflaps to enable the House Cat to come and go as she pleases and to ensure that she enjoys her privileges unmolested by the farmyard animals. Training in the use of catflaps is available where this is a new experience for the right applicant. Applicants for the post of House Cat to Cinderhill Farm need to: * enjoy being stroked and loved, * want a warm knee to sit on during long, cold winter evenings * prefer fine feather duvets, a woodburning stove and Harris tweed woven woollen sofa covers too the barn or twitching compost heap. We would particularly like to find a lady tabby cat with a stripy tail and happy personality. We are not ageist, and would welcome applications from cats of all ages. However, a certain level of fitness is advisable owing to the close proximity of the dogs and a certain spirit of adventure will help you to make the most of your time here. Your responsibilities would be to be a companion for us in the evening, and to welcome us up each morning. Keeping the kitchen free of mice is a must. Sometimes we have visiting children who would love it if you enjoyed playing with cat toys with them. You could also take on the task of catching water drips from the bath tap and spiders who run across the floor, should these pursuits take your fancy. You might also like to consider the important task of Keeping the Bed Warm during the day, ready for when we return from work in the evening. Our terms are as follows: * You will need to be spayed soon after arriving if you are not already, which will mean you getting to know our friendly vets. * We will insure you against illness and accident, and will make sure you are treated regularly for worms and given regular inoculations. * You will be given your own food bowls and water bowl and a special corner so you always know where to find them. * You will have open access to most of the house and free access to the garden, once you have lived here for a week or two. * We shall feed you a healthy diet, as recommended by our vet, though there are ample opportunities to supplement this at will in the long grass and the hedgerows around our house! We hope that if you are a tabby cat (or a tabby kitten), preferably with short hair as there are people with allergies who come to stay, you will consider applying for the position of House Cat here at Cinderhill Farm. You would be made so very welcome, and would fill the sad hole in our life caused by the passing of our previous, and utterly beloved cat, Miss Muffet. We hope you are out there and reading this right now, and we look forward to hearing from you :-) Deborah Flint
