Situational report As of 2300H,December 5, 2014 Evacuation TACLOBAN CITY - In Barangay 83-A, Sabang, Tacloban City, 400 families were evacuated in Fatima Church and Montejo Building (private). Families in both centers requesting for food packs. - 5,358 individuals from 31 barangays in Tacloban evacuated at Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) since Dec 4. Complaints on lack of toilet facilities. - 156 families from 5 barangays in Tacloban coastal areas evacuated at Leyte National High School. Families request if vacant rooms can be occupied as evacuees are staying at the school’s lobby. Problems on access to comfort rooms of the school. - Live presscon by Mayor Romualdez: Different interpretations of weather forecast created confusion to the communities. - In Barangay 89 and 90, Baybay, San Jose, 90% of the families evacuated, 10% remain at their houses because of alleged theft incidents. Sweeping of families implemented. - In Barangay 75, Fatima, Tacloban City, early evacuation was made by communities. Concern: DPWH Dredging Machine (from Yolanda) still on the area. PALO, LEYTE - 157 families in San Joaquin, Palo, Leyte refuse to evacuate to Palo National High School because of cracked beams. More evacuation centers needed. STA. FE LEYTE - Barangay Isidro, Sta Fe, Leyte – the need for more evacuation sites. EASTERN SAMAR - Forced evacuation will be implemented to 29 families living near the coast in Borongan, Eastern Samar. As of 12nn, December 5, 2014, 61 families were already evacuated. o 60 percent evacuation made in Borongan, Eastern Samar - In Maydolong, Eastern Samar, residents from coastal areas have evacuated to Guinpoliran Elementary School fearing of a destructive storm surge. o All shops and offices in the cities are closed including gasoline stations. WESTERN SAMAR - In Basey Samar, residents in low lying areas were also ordered to evacuate from areas close to the sea and evacuated to Basey Central School. More than 3,000 evacuees in Basey Central School. o All PNP personnel in Basey Samar was declared under heightened red alert status. Food packs are readily available for distribution. - In Sta Rita Samar residents along low lying coastal areas are advised to seek higher grounds and to four designated evacuation centers. Residents were advised to take necessary precautions against flooding due to storm surge. o The LGU prepared food packs for the evacuess, monitor public weather forecasts, bulletin and warnings issued by PAGASA. o Lack of PNP personnel in evacuation centers. - In Balangiga, Eastern Samar, more than 60 families near the shoreline were readied for evacuation. Food packs from DSWD have not yet arrived. Food supply from the barangay was purchased from calamity funds. - In Barangay Pahug, Pinabacdao, some residents are still doing carpentry works to secure their houses from strong winds. NORTHERN SAMAR - In Catarman, Northern Samar, force evacuation to be implemented this 5pm to 25 barangays with 40,000 population. As of 3pm today, 3,000 individuals were evacuated. This only covers barangays in Catarman, Northern Samar. No ready food packs/NFIs for distribution. o Update: 18 identified evacuation centers o Food packs available but can only sustain to 1 ½ days o To sweep of 40,000 individuals from coastal areas INFORMATION ON DISASTER PREPAREDNESS *Around 4,000 copies of the newsletter were distributed yesterday. o Tacloban City, Dulag, Alang- Alang, Dagami, Palo, Jaro, Mahaplag, Abuyog o Southern Leyte – Sogod, Tomas Oppus, Malitbog, Padre Burgos, Maasin down to Hindang and Inupakan o Western Samar – Sta.
