Six Drivers Take Honors at PCR Memorial Day Special! Story by Brian Walker – Walker Racing Promotions (Kristy McDougal Photo) Tulsa, OK | May 25, 2014 – A field of 145 entries filled the pits of Port City Raceway last night as the final night of the annual Memorial Day Special commenced. An enticing night full of 14 heat races, three B-Mains, six Dash for Cash races, and six feature events would run atop the high-banked 1/8th mile. Five out of the six drivers that claimed victory on Friday night were able to defend their win and back it up with another on Saturday night. Now through 14 races and with ¼ of the season completed, the Tulsa, OK track has seen an incredible number of 31 drivers claim victory. Pryor native of Frank Flud leads the charge with an astonishing 11 wins, Jordan Herrman follows with seven, Chris Andrews has earned six, and Jake Nail has claimed five. This Saturday night will see the return of weekly point racing back at Port City as the track closes out a busy month of May that has seen five weekends and seven events. All six divisions will be in action as racing will kick off at 7:00 on Saturday night. A full breakdown of last night’s action can be found below along with results. A full statistical report of the 2014 season at Port City Raceway will also be released in the next week. JR. SPRINTS! The Jr. Sprint division would see a total of 15 youngsters come to do battle last night as all would be fighting to claim victory in the 20-lap feature event. Baron Silva and Grady Mercer claimed the two heat race victories as Holley Hollan rocketed to the Dash victory to earn the pole position in the feature with Friday night victor and Sand Springs native of Hank Davis alongside her. Hollan would use the pole position to her advantage and immediately shoot into the race lead. With Davis and Jake Nail trailing the young Broken Arrow native, Hollan was fiercely trying to hold off the two charging drivers. She would easily claim the first half of the race, but just as the cross flags waved roles were reversed. As lap 12 would see Davis power by Hollan and take command of the field in his #1H machine. The second half of the race would feature a top five breakaway from the field with a pack of the first five drivers setting a blistering pace around the wicked fast 1/8th mile. As the laps ticked off lap traffic would come into play and cause havoc for the front five. The #1H would see no problem while navigating through traffic however, as Hank Davis defended his preliminary night victory with the win on Saturday to claim his second victory of the year! Jake Nail came home with a close second place finish, Grady Mercer got third, Holley Hollan finished fourth, and Shawn Mahaffey rounded out the top five. A-Main (20 laps): 1. Hank Davis (2), 2. Jake Nail (4), 3. Grady Mercer (6), 4. Holley Hollan (1), 5. Shawn Mahaffey (7), 6. Baron Silva (5), 7. Connor Lee (10), 8. Emilio Hoover (8), 9. J Brady Hilton (14), 10. Ryder Laplante (9), 11. Hayden Mabe (11), 12. Grayson Gaddy (15), 13. Gunner Bowden (13), 14. Kale Drake (3), 15. Elizabeth Phillips (12). Lap Leader(s): Holley Hollan 1-11; Hank Davis 12-20 Hard Charger(s): J Brady Hilton +5 A-CLASS! As always the A-Class division reeled in another stellar car count, this time bringing in 30 cars to duke it out and battle at Port City. Three heat races won by Jason McDougal, Dean Drake Jr., and Daniel Shaffer would lineup the B-Main that would see Kris Carroll claim victory. Jordan Herrman would dethrone Frank Flud in the Dash for Cash as the Owasso native earned the pole position. This time it was the outside pole sitter of Flud who rocketed straight to the lead and forced the #92 of Herrman to fall into second. As Flud started to pull away lap by lap, the Factor One Racing duo of McDougal and Kevin Bayer had worked their way into the top five running order. The halfway mark of the 25-lap feature would soon hit and along with that would be a crazy lap traffic battle for the lead. Herrman used the lap cars to his advantage and quickly reeled in Flud, but as he was hounding Flud for the lead while slicing and dicing his way in between lappers, the yellow flag would fly and kill all of his progress. As the five to go signal was shown, Karley Kay Dobson, who was piloting her #28 machine in third relinquished the spot as she pulled in with something amiss on her car. Flud and Herrman would approach lap traffic with just a mere few laps remaining, but this time it would not slow the Pryor native as Frank Flud would lead every single lap aboard his #81 Outlaw Wings machine and claim his 11th victory of 2014! Jordan Herrman would settle for a stellar second place, Kevin Bayer pulled a last lap slidejob for third, Jason McDougal grabbed fourth, and Jake Rosario finished fifth. A-Main (25 laps): 1. Frank Flud (2), 2. Jordan Herrman (1), 3. Kevin Bayer (8), 4. Jason McDougal (6), 5. Jake Rosario (3), 6. Dean Drake Jr. (7), 7. Kris Carroll (17), 8. Joey Baker (12), 9. Wes Little (14), 10. Trenton Borchers (13), 11. Nathan Weida (18), 12. Blake McDermott (19), 13. Chad Bell (9), 14. Brittany Yarwood (20), 15. Daniel Shaffer (5), 16. Brad Best (15), 17. Bailey Stringer (11), 18. Karley Kay Dobson (4), 19. Ryan Gauntt (10), 20. Bailey Hughes (16). Lap Leader(s): Frank Flud 1-25 Hard Charger(s): Kris Carroll +10 RESTRICTED! All 20 Restricted drivers from night one of the Memorial Day Special returned to action on Saturday night with another 20 car field set for battle. Quinton Standlee and Brandon Anderson claimed heat race action while Kaylee Bryson piloted her Sawyer Chassis #11B machine to the Dash for Cash victory. Bryson took immediate control of the field once the green flag few, but young Grady Widener never let the Ross Racing driver sneak away too far. The battle for second would change hands all race long while Widener, Friday night victor Jase Randolph, and Noah Harris all swapping the position multiple times. The yellow would flag would haunt the 25-lap feature a countless number of times and continually slow down the pace set by Bryson. Harris would finally gain complete control of second place just before the halfway point and slowly ate away at Bryson’s lead. The Broken Arrow native eventually reeled in Bryson, but lap traffic would destroy all the ground he had made up in the closing laps. As Harris tried and tried again, he just couldn’t pass the #11B machine as Kaylee Bryson would lead every lap of the feature and earn her second feature win of the season! Noah Harris would finish second, Jase Randolph claimed third, Grady Widener grabbed fourth, and Trenton Jackson charged from 16th to round out the top five and earn hard charger honors. A-Main (25 laps): 1. Kaylee Bryson (1), 2. Noah Harris (7), 3. Jase Randolph (4), 4. Grady Widener (2), 5. Trenton Jackson (16), 6. Cole Roberts (10), 7. Jaiden Hughes (8), 8. Taylor Reimer (15), 9. Brandon Anderson (6), 10. Blake Hulland (9), 11. Stephen Smith (11), 12. Tristan Oakes (14), 13. Haley Hollan (12), 14. Cannon McIntosh (19), 15. Quinton Standlee (5), 16. Christopher Coster (18), 17. Jace McIntosh (17), 18. Ryan Hunt (13), 19. Zac Moody (20), 20. Blake Battles (3). Lap Leader(s): Kaylee Bryson 1-25 Hard Charger(s): Trenton Jackson +11 NON-WING! The highest car count of the night would be boasted by the always thrilling and exciting Non-Wing division. A total of 32 wingless cars would create four heat races won by Jarrett Crouch, Chris Andrews, Hunter Fischer, and David Proffitt. B-Main action would see Trey Lambert claim victory as Grady Chandler, Dylan Ward, and Curtis Jones also transferred. After winning Friday night’s feature event and Saturday’s Dash for Cash, Jordan Herrman earned the pole position for the 25-lap feature. It was the outside pole sitter of Chris Cochran, who rocketed from 19th to 2nd the night before that claimed the early race lead. The first half of the race would be dominated by Cochran and his #7C machine, but Herrman and Chris Andrews had started to close in on the McLoud native just after halfway. With Cochran up high running the wild PCR cushion and Herrman down low rolling around the tires, a battle was for sure set to ensue. Just as Herrman drove under Cochran and took the lead on the 15th circuit, the whole race would change going into turn one. Cochran would drive his #7C hard into turn one on the cushion, but did not anticipate the slow lap car as he would drive his machine into the back of the lapper, ruining what was a stellar drive by the Concept Chassis driver. The incident would leave the familiar 1-2 Non-Wing running order of Herrman and Andrews left to duke it out for the win. Andrews would constantly stalk and hound Herrman’s #92 machine lap after lap, but just couldn’t get around the young Owasso native. As the checkered flag would fly Jordan Herrman would be the first across the line as he piloted his #92 Sawyer Chassis machine to his seventh victory of the year! Chris Andrews came home with a close second, Harlan Hulsey closed out the podium, Dylan Kadous earned hard charger honors by coming from 14th to fourth, and Jason McDougal charged from 11th to round out the top five. A-Main (25 laps): 1. Jordan Herrman (1), 2. Chris Andrews (7), 3. Harlan Hulsey (10), 4. Dylan Kadous (14), 5. Jason McDougal (11), 6. Joey Baker (3), 7. Nate Burkett (12), 8. Rodney Maner (13), 9. Hunter Fischer (8), 10. Grady Chandler (18), 11. Curtis Jones (20), 12. Shane Hacker (16), 13. Cord Dodson (4), 14. Chris Cochran (2), 15. Jarrett Crouch (6), 16. David Proffitt (9), 17. Dylan Ward (19), 18. Trey Lambert (17), 19. Trenton Borchers (5), 20. Robby Chaney (15). Lap Leader(s): Chris Cochran 1-14; Jordan Herrman 15-25 Hard Charger(s): Dylan Kadous +10 SPORTSMAN! A 19-car field of Sportsman drivers would come to do battle last night all vying for a prestigious Port City victory. Luke Tipton and Dave Nicholson would score heat race victories as Craig Carroll continued his hot streak by dominating in the Dash for Cash and earning the pole position for the feature event. Carroll would pick up immediately where he left off on Friday night as he rocketed his Walker Racing #33 machine into the lead. Brandon Henson and David Doss would fall in line behind Carroll as they tried to track down the dominate driver. The race would see the #33 walk away on every restart and go unchallenged as Craig Carroll dominated for the second night in a row to claim his fourth victory of the season! Brandon Henson would claim second, David Doss grabbed third, Taylor Garrison charged from 15th to fourth, and Ricky Glover Sr. rounded out the top five. A-Main (25 laps): 1. Craig Carroll, 2. Brandon Henson, 3. David Doss, 4. Taylor Garrison, 5. Ricky Glover Sr., 6. Luke Tipton, 7. Ryan Cody, 8. Dave Nicholson, 9. Kenny Howard, 10. Isaac Barr, 11. Mark Lutz, 12. Dwight Green, 13. For the second week in a row the Outlaw division boasted another stellar car count with 31 drivers battling it out last night. The three heat races would be claimed by Kenny Koelsch, Harley Hollan, and Jeff Frey as Ryan Ratliff earned the B-Main victory. Travis Harris would pull off an incredible Dash for Cash victory to earn the pole position. For the second night in a row Harris took his All-Pro Auto Reconditioning #155 straight to the race lead. Chris Andrews, in his #8 Justin Blevins owned Sawyer Chassis quickly shot into second and never let Harris slip away too far. Just as Harris started to really break away, the yellow would fly for Layne Himebaugh as something went amiss on the #9 CTE Racing machine while in fourth. Frank Flud would soon enough move past Andrews for second and begin to hunt down Harris for the lead. Lap after lap Flud would close in on Harris’ #155 machine and eventually was all over the Owasso native. Flud would finally strike as he chunked a slidejob on the race leader, but Harris would not be denied as he drove right back under Flud to regain the lead. The two would continue to battle and fight for the lead until a yellow with five to go would change everything. Harris rocketed away on the final restart and would hold on throughout the final five laps to claim his second victory of 2014 at Port City! Frank Flud would settle for second, Chris Andrews ran third, Jake Rosario brought it home in fourth, and Harlan Hulsey rounded out the top five. A-Main (25 laps): 1, Travis Harris (1), 2.
