Six FIRs lodged in Thane for flouting model code of conduct. Flying squads, special officers and surveillance teams, deployed by the district electoral officer, cracked down on political parties and candidates, charged with flouting the norms of election model code of conduct. We have filed six cases of violation of the model election code of conduct, said Thane returning officer (RO) Dilip Shinde on Saturday. Six first information reports (FIR) have been filed against the violators till Saturday, on varied cases under the jurisdiction of Thane parliamentary constituency encompassing Mira-Bhayandar, Ovla-Majiwada, Kopri-Panchpakhadi, Thane city, Airoli and Belapur assembly segments. The officials found as many as 9,006 cases for defacing public property during the election campaign, out of which it removed 9,001 cases that included 4,940 on banners, 2,986 on posters and 541 over wall writing, along with 539 cases recorded for other norms of non-compliance. Finally, five cases have been lodged against the violators for defacing public property, no prior permission for loud speaker, meetings, rallies and allowing more than permissible number of people approaching ROs during filing of nomination forms. The sixth case was registered under gratification, where people were lured with promises of cash and kind, out of two such cases recorded with the RO. After receiving many complaints of misappropriation of poll expenditure, the RO summoned all 26 candidates or their representatives to submit their expenditure charts for scrutiny on different dates.
