Six Month Diploma in Orthotropic-Orthodontics (1305) 15th Aug 2014 – 12th Feb 2015 ---------------------------------- orthotropics.co.uk ---------------------------------- Course objectives The course equips students with the skills needed to commence orthotropic treatment on cases with average to good muscle tone. It is focused on the clinical and theoretical aspects required for provision of orthotropic care. The 6 month course is open to Home, EU and Overseas students; successful completion of the course will result in the award of a Diploma in Orthotropic Orthodontics. The course is also recognised for training purposes by the London School of Facial Orthotropics and the International Association of Facial Growth Guidance. Students spend their time within the Clinic for Facial Orthotropics, the Orthotropic Laboratory and the LSFO, adding to the quality and diversity of the clinical training they receive. Programme Structure The course requires full time attendance of three 4 day modules over a 6 month period, with an examination after each module and the final examination on completion of the course. 1st Module- 15th – 18th August 2014 2nd Module – 27th – 30th November 2014 3rd Module – 12th – 15th February 2015 The course consists of three main elements: a) Theoretical elements covering the aetiology, epidemiology, diagnosis, pathology, treatments (which include orthodontic, surgical and orthotropic treatments) and the long term cure of malocclusion. b) A clinical practical element, the supervised management of 3 patients from start to training phase (the cases are treated by the student in their clinic). c) Clinical demonstrations, with explanation, case histories and discussion in both the clinic and laboratory. Throughout the programme, each student will spend 96 hours at the LSFO of which 50 hours are clinical and they will be encouraged to take up the option alone day courses either side of the three 4 day modules; totalling 48 hours clinical time and 6 hours seminar time. Between modules at the LSFO the students are expected select and start treatment on three cases in their own clinic, obtaining excellent records to present at the school.
