Six More Things You Might Not Know About Me (aka, Thank You, Shirley Ann Standridge) 1. My nickname in college was Rocco. Seriously. 2. I wrote a play, a romantic comedy titled My Ideal, that once had a public reading. 3. My favorite song is a standard from the 1940s, the lyrics of which do not contain a single rhyme. Any guesses? 4. For the past few years, I have been the lead organizer of a thus-far unsuccessful campaign to get Arkansas own singing cowboy Jimmy Wakely inducted into the Arkansas Entertainers Hall of Fame. 5. I accidentally started an e-newsletter. In 2007, I served as president of the Arkansas Chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC/Arkansas.) In that role, I would receive job posts to share with the membership. At the time, the organizations website was in transition, so I sent job announcements out via e-blast as a service to the members. When my presidency ended, so did my e-blasts. I soon began receiving messages from people who were afraid they had fallen off the distribution list for my newsletter. Apparently, members had forwarded my messages to friends and colleagues, and I suddenly had a following for a newsletter I didnt know I had. Always one to respond well to positive reinforcement, Rons Round-Up was born. Its quite informal, actually, going out on average twice a month – sometimes more, sometimes less – and focusing primarily (though not exclusively) on jobs in the fields of communications, marketing, advertising, public relations, graphic arts, nonprofit and journalism. 6.
