Six children born for each new home built Mortgage insurer - TopicsExpress

Six children born for each new home built Mortgage insurer Genworth has found that over the past four years just one new home has been built in the UK for every six children born. This is double the 1950’s level of three births per new home, and significantly more than 1970’s record low ratio of 2.4 per home. The worst areas for house building next to population growth were Nottingham, North Warwickshire, Brighton and Hove, Sevenoaks and West Somerset. These findings are a major cause of concern when you think of the struggle that todays 30-somethings face to get on the housing ladder. The first-time buyer of the future will come up against even greater competition,” commented Genworth’s Simon Crone. The Mirror cites a National Association of Estate Agents survey which found over half of responding agents predicted that the supply and demand gap will widen next year, pushing up house prices. Increased immigration and longer life expectancies have also been blamed for worsening the supply crisis. Separately, the Mail reports that 47,000 Romanian and Bulgarian immigrants entered the UK in 2014, bringing the total number living here to an estimated 250,000. Conservative MP Peter Bone has called for tightening of immigration rules, due to the influx straining housing, council services and schools. thetimes.co.uk/tto/business/industries/construction-property/article4309339.ece
