Six killed, 12 others injured in Makongo accident June 22 2014 At least six people died and twelve others were seriously injured following an accident that involved two commuter buses ‘daladalas ‘ at Makongo area along Bagamoyo Road in Dar es Salaam on Saturday. Makongo accidentMakongo accident Confirming the accident, the Kinondoni Regional Police Commander (RPC), Mr Camilius Wambura, said the accident which occurred at around 1pm, claimed lives of three men and three women, leaving dozen others in critical condition. However, names of the deceased and the injured, who were rushed to the nearby Lugalo Military Hospital, could not be established by the time we went to press. The RPC said the mishap happened after the driver of a commuter bus with registration number T 441 CKT heading to Mwenge from Tegeta lost control and rammed into another commuter bus with registration number T 377 BET, which was travelling in the opposite direction of the dual carriageway. The ill-fated commuter bus plies the Tegeta/ Nyuki and Ubungo route. Speaking with the ‘Sunday News’ one eye witness said that the accident was a result of reckless driving on the part of the driver of the illfated bus, who was reportedly speeding. He added that the bus that was rammed into also lost control and in turn knocked a lorry, which skid and hit another vehicle, thus causing heavy traffic jam. By ANNE ROBI, Tanzania Daily News
