Six mornings a week an Indian Malaysian man makes putu mayam (aka string hoppes) and putu piring in front of Pulau Tikus market made on the spot (freshly-made putu piring). Its even rarer to find it prepared as this man does, squeezing his rice flour batter through an old-fashioned wooden press (opening photo) onto an upturned shallow bamboo tray. (These days the presses and steaming trays are more often than not made of stainless steel.) The Indian food, Putu Mayam is a snack eaten with fresh grated coconut and brown sugar or gula Melaka. It is also known as string hoppers and is eaten cold. This sticky noodle like snack is made with pressing the dough through a mould and steamed. It is a very popular snack and sold in many places. Most of us would have eaten it before. 地点:Jalan Pasar, Pulau Tikus, Penang https://facebook/video.php?v=586416458161312
