Six persons, who had contact with the corpse brought into the country from Ebola stricken Liberia and deposited in a hospital mortuary at Nkwelle Ezunaka, Anambra State, have all tested negative to the dreaded disease. Following the discovery of the corpse last week, Anambra State Government shut down the hospital and quarantined the six persons who had contact with the corpse, fearing that they might have been infected by the disease. Two of those quarantined were identified as relations of the deceased while the others were morticians working in the hospital mortuary where the corpse was deposited. The state government had also evacuated all the patients at the hospital and directed the police to cordon off the entire area. Daily Independent reliably gathered that medical experts from the Federal Ministry of Health, who went to Anambra State last weekend and extracted samples from the corpse and those quarantined for analysis, have reported their findings to the state government. A top official in the state Ministry of Health, who pleaded anonymity, confirmed that the six persons who were quarantined tested negative to Ebola disease, while the result of the analysis on the corpse was being awaited. When journalists met Commissioner for Health, Dr. Josephat Akabuike, in his office on Tuesday for official confirmation, he did not deny the information, but merely said he would issue a statement soon. Governor Willie Obiano was reported not happy with the apprehension caused in the state by the news of the Liberian corpse broken by his commissioner and has therefore directed all his commissioners and appointees to get clearance from him before going to the press. follow on twitter @anambrastate_ng
