Six police officers took part in beating a homeless man to death while he begged for his life. The photos of this mans face, lying in his hospital bed while he took five days to die, still haunt me. There is a video of the beating, but i couldnt finish watching it - this man was just some homeless irritant hanging out on the street, like so many irritating homeless street people, who needed mental health services, but since Reagan de-funded our mental health system all those years ago, creating an epidemic of homeless mental health patients living on the street, we are still suffering this problem. No matter how irritating i find the street people in our own lil burg, i dont think the police should be beating them...to death...and then getting away with it. The ruling to let these officers go free is a dangerous precedent. What could be more excessive force then continuing to beat a man who is being sat on by four men and begging for his life. We need the police - we also need them to be accountable - beating homeless people shouldnt be part of their duties let alone killing people simply because they are irritating.
