Six years ago today, we heard the words, Parry Romberg Syndrome for the first time. Life as we knew it ended...and a new normal began. There were many dark days as we navigated the uncharted waters of finding treatment and help for our darling little boy. After many trips to NYC, Wisconsin and UCSF, 5 surgeries, 26 fundraisers and a lot of prayer...I worried about the kind of childhood Hank would have. And here we are...Hank is happy and strong, loving and compassionate. With great friends and a community of people who have loved and supported him. Some since the beginning and some who have just met him. With all the bad has come such good. And although my heart hurts for Hank...for all that he has endured and for what may come...I am grateful that I have the privilege of being this boys mother. A son who inspires me to be a better person and to choose to see the good in others, instead of focusing on the bad. This anniversary hits me hard every year...but like Hank, I choose to see the good!
