Sixty years ago yesterday, The Caine Mutiny premiered in New York City. Bogie, who served in the Navy during WWI and had a life-long love for sailing and the ocean, relished the opportunity to play the part of Lt. Cmdr. Queeg. The movie was a hit, finishing second at the 1954 box office to Bing Crosbys White Christmas. Bogie was nominated for an Oscar, but lost to Marlon Brando for On the Waterfront. Bogie had beaten Brando a few years earlier, winning for The African Queen over Brandos A Streetcar Named Desire. The movie inspired a young actor named Maurice Micklewhite to change his name to Michael Caine.
