Skotkonung’s Google Glass software noticed by the BBC Skotkonung’s freshly implemented onto Google Glass biometric software, bringing benefits for the international development environment, has recently gained a high level of attention from the BBC. On the Friday, August 16th, our SK team worked alongside the BBC to deliver newsworthy material concerning Google Glass and its possible use within humanitarian aid and international development industry. For those unfamiliar with Google Glass, you may read our previous article on skotkonung/news-links. The software using biometric data is not the first implemented by our team. We have previously supported a number of international development programmes. Our Secure Cash & Voucher Transfer Solution, for example, uses face and finger print biometrics to deliver payments safely, quickly and with full audit trail. According to our management team, Google Glass shouldn’t be merely labelled as another trendy gadget, but a tool with a widespread potential for saving lives in hostile settings. The BBC crew, with news presenter Alistair Fee, filmed our managing directors Jonathan Cole and Nameer Al-Hadithi as they wore the Glass and discussed benefits of the software. The single concern occurring within production process regarded the initial size of the device. The BBC filming crew were unable to steadily capture footage of the Glass’ screen due to its small and delicate design. Our in-house team of developers immediately implemented a solution. Through connecting the image seen by the Google Glass to that of a tablet, BBC became able to capture highest possible quality picture. Consequently, the identification process of those present at our office building finished with a substantial success. Google Glass thus managed to label most of the seen individuals as friendly targets. This significant test clearly demonstrated Glass’ potential and confirmed our team’s talent. With a number of necessary improvements and field tests, our SK team will be able to start saving lives sooner rather than later!
