Skye Bartusiak Obituary Skye McCole Bartusiak passed away on Saturday, July 19, 2014, in Houston TX. Skye was 21 years old and perhaps a more engaging young woman never walked Earth. She was born in Houston TX on September 28, 1992. She attended St. Thomas Episcopal Academy and Lutheran South High School in Houston, and graduated from Laurel Springs High School in Ojai, CA in 2010. Skye was an actor. After a multiple-year progression through talent competitions and print modeling jobs in Houston, she was cast in an ABC mini-series, Storm of the Century, in 1998. This marked the beginning of an active acting career that took her away from Houston for part-time residencies in Los Angeles, other cities in the U.S., Canada, Czech Republic, Australia, and New Zealand. She appeared in 14 feature films, numerous shorts, 7 television films, and in recurring or guest roles in 11 television series. In 2003, she starred in the Broadway revival of The Miracle Worker. Most recently, she directed 3 short films, and had begun to produce 2 others. She may be best remembered for the heart-tugging role of Mel Gibsons youngest daughter in The Patriot, for her recurring role as Megan Matheson in the television show 24, and as the frontier girl in the Hallmark movie Love Comes Softly. Skye was an extrovert, optimistic, pleasant, and a joy to be with. She was a people person, not a scholar, to the continuing and loving annoyance of her parents. She wrote stories, poetry, and songs - often singing with friends who provided melodies. She loved her dogs, the sea, and dolphins. Skye was a foodie and frequent chef of family meals. Arguably the most worlds most prolific text messenger, she was the family telecommunications consultant. She was elegant, articulate, and well-read. Skye made indelible impressions on people with her gifts of expression on stage and screen, and of engagement in person. Skye contributed time and talent to charities including the Make-A-Wish Foundation at the Los Angeles Childrens Hospital and the National Education Associations Read Across America program. Skye was preceded in death by her grandparents, Wanda and R. Donald Bartusiak, Sr. and Johanna and Walter McCole. She is survived by her parents, Dr. R. Donald and Helen McCole Bartusiak; brother, Stephen D. Bartusiak of Houston TX; fourteen aunts and uncles, and twelve cousins living in Texas and Pennsylvania. Visitation will be Thursday, July 24, 2014 from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm at Heights Presbyterian Church at 240 W. 18th St., Houston TX 77008. A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 25, 2014 at 2 pm at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church at 11612 Memorial Drive, Houston TX 77024. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Skye McCole Bartusiak Foundation c/o Leonard S. Roth, Esq., 4265 San Felipe, Suite 500, Houston TX 77027 for distribution to charitable causes. - See more at: m.legacy/obituaries/houstonchronicle/obituary.aspx?n=skye-bartusiak&pid=171830950&referrer=0&preview=True#sthash.FXUJvJKp.dpuf
