Slain in the Spirit: Is it Biblical? By Michael Houke What is the phenomenon known as “Slain in the Spirit”? What is it when Benny Hinn waves his arms and people fall all over the place and latter claim they were slain in the spirit. What is it when Kenneth Copeland touches a person and they fall to their knees and claim they are healed and slain in the spirit? Just what causes this and is it biblical? There is no biblical basis for this phenomenon, no were in scripture can we find instances where people were slain by the Holy Spirit in this manner or any other manner for that matter. While there are a few instances in the Bible where someone fell down on their knees, in the presence of God, and in Saul’s case when he was confronted by Jesus. Jesus appeared to Saul in His Shekinah Glory causing Saul to fall to the ground and become blinded, but he was not slain in the spirit. When someone waves their arms or touches another person and people fall back, roll on the ground, start kicking, etc. this is not based on any experience from scripture and is clearly not from God. Then if not from God, then whom? It is most unfortunate that so many people are deceived by this phenomenon which is nothing more that “Social Psychological Manipulation”. In these last days discernment skills are giving away to many unbiblical practices and slain in the spirit is just another subtle deception of Satan, turning people away from the real Gospel and biblical truth, to another gospel that cannot save anyone
