Slammed with a grant proposal to fight for meager scraps from the State of Florida, I am heartened by an Op-Ed article by Professor Suzanne Sherman justifying why NCF should not be judged by some one size fits all metrics. If we believe that a diversity of educational options are deserving of Floridians, then we must support that notion with proper policy and funding. Common metrics 1 and 2, Percent of Bachelors Graduates Employed and/or Continuing their Education Further One Year after Graduation, and Median Average Full-Time Wages of Undergraduates Employed in Florida One Year after Graduation, hamper New College because the metric counts only those students employed full-time in Florida as having jobs. A large proportion of our graduates -- including many of the best paid -- leave the state. An important responsibility of any good college or university is to create opportunities for students -- not only in their own backyard but around the world. --Suzanne Sherman heraldtribune/article/20140203/COLUMNIST/302039998/-1/news300?Title=Guest-Performance-metrics-and-New-College#gsc.tab=0
