Slap your hand on your forehead DOH move #17: After being practically a Floridian since Having moved here in 1989, Im indoctrinated into knowing not to do touristy stupid things such as feeding seagulls or pelicans, and the like. I also learned eons ago about collecting shells and especially how to bleach out sand dollars and how to not take live shells but to let them live and only take dead shells where the slugs or snails inside are no longer inhabiting them and I dont touch a shell that any hermit crab took residence in as thats his home. But the last time we went out kayaking we found some perfect shells, large conch and the like which were empty. And 3 perfectly huge sand dollars. I had forgotten about them completely and left them in the car overnight and the next day my car reeked so badly on my way to work I couldnt breathe and was searching for the rotten banana or apple I was sure rolled under a car seat. Nothing. Finally I remembered about the shells a full day later. I cleaned them out of my car and left all windows down overnight to fumigate the car but the next day the smell was worse.apparently a tiny blue baby crab mustve hidden in the larger shells and died. Oh God, what a stink and man I dont feel like shelling again. And all from that one creature which I felt sorry for but he was like a stink bomb! No.More.Shelling!unless we remember to immediately search the car after a day On the beach.
