Slavery was never a race issue - until people tried to make it one in modern day America. The first recorded slavers were neither black nor white. As mentioned, in the earliest days of modern slavery, it was the moors who were the most eager among slave traders, enslaving their fellow black man as quickly as they would a white man . . . and those slaves were sold to owners of nearly every race and culture.
