Sleep? What’s that!! So sleep again eluded me I’ve been up all night Again I lost the battle as the fatigue and pain I fight I try to find a balance but cannot get it right I was hoping that I’d win and briefly I thought I might I will watch the sunrise and I will greet the dawn Fighting this losing battle I will stand forlorn With a choice word or maybe two probably being sworn And cursing Mr Sandman and the day that he was born I tried warm milk and counting sheep I relaxed my breathing deep With eyes screwed tight I began to weep As nothing happened, I just could not sleep Watching seconds as they ticked by Tossing and turning, again I sigh Time slows down it does not fly Frustrated tears again I cry All that’s left is for me to ponder On the wasted night my mind did squander My rambling thoughts away did wander Stopping me from going under Around midday I will probably now crash I must pace and do nothing rash Perhaps a wall for my head to bash Or take a happy pill from my secret stash Faced now with this downward plunge Hoping it will not lurch or lunge No sweet lullaby more like grunge Dripping wet just like a sponge I struggle now to find words that rhyme Probably best and just in time This is the end now, the last line ©Terry Haslett facebook/PoetrySoapbox
