Sleep deprived thought: When you look at women on welfare, or - TopicsExpress

Sleep deprived thought: When you look at women on welfare, or whatever they call it now, dont pass judgement on who they are and why they are there. There are some of us who have sat in the aid office and listened to the people in the office explain how to work the system and get more money or benefits or stamps (or whatever they are now) and knew we couldnt and probably wouldnt get away with that. My daughter has a son and is trying to work. Ok...not an ideal situation but one many women find themselves in. She isnt asking to be carried. She wants to work and contribute to society but she falls in that ever growing populace called the working poor. She makes too much to get aide or child care assistance but not enough to make a living on her own. She has been blessed with help here and there. Some more reliable than others, but all she asks for is to work so she can take care of her son herself. Why is that so hard to do now? Why is it too much to ask for? She isnt perfect, but no one is. She IS a Hard worker. She DOES want to pull her own weight. She HAS a good job, but do to some stupidness it is in Indy and she is here. So she is faced with quitting her good job to care for her son, and I know shes not the only woman in her place. WTH is up with that? That seems so crazy to me. Women out there who WANT to work but cant because they cant afford child care and/or dont have anyone to help them care for their child/children. I have been guilty in the past and so I had to look at myself as well. So when you look at that person in the checkout in front of you with the link card dont make assumptions about them. When you know someone receives welfare dont assume you know their story. Im trying to help mine as you have read if you follow me, but I cant keep this up for very long. She has had a few friends who have helped along the way as well but my heart goes out to those girls facing these struggles alone. What happens to those girls who have more than one child or who, God forbid, are trying to go to school to better themselves as well?? What about those whos families cant or wont help them? All very daunting to me. Sorry.....when you have too much time on your hands your mind wanders(wonders) the strangest things.
