(Slightly drunken sentimental post alert:) All thru most of the 2000s (my truly formative years), my best friends were mostly straight females from school, who knew me, who understood me, who didnt compete with me, but rather, completed me. They were my gay-male-alter-egos in female bodies, my brunch buddies, my movie dates, my gossip queens. In the last 6 or 8 years, that has shifted... my best friends, by and large, became gay male besties since then, and usually in group settings. My straight female bff pool boiled down to just one last (wo)man standing. LINDA. And damned if she wasnt man enough for the job. Shes been my consistent rock, my one true BFF that was only a subway ride away, while all my gay male friends had moved onto Cali, Florida, upstate, who I only got to see but a couple times a year. But Linda has always been here, year round. She has since left FB (bc lets face it, FB is a playground for commuters, complainers, and social commandeerers, none of which she is... But all areas in which yours truly thrives... ), but is still very much tuned into my life, and vice versa. Our year-round friendship gets me thru a lot, from delving into our innermost thoughts, to comparing secrets of our crypt-keeper physiques, to our hopes+fears of our lives way down the road when were both old maids on our third or fourth marriages... all over neverending glasses of wine, plates of food, and Real Housewives shenanigans. And I value that. A lot. And she wont see this because shes off FB. But she knows this because shes a true best friend forever.
