Slip-Slidin’ We spent the weekend poolside, playing and - TopicsExpress

Slip-Slidin’ We spent the weekend poolside, playing and splashing in the sun. We laughed that we’d never seen Cooper so excited. This was the first trip that he was excited for. Until now, he’s always been along for the ride and just factored in to Abbey and Ethan’s plans for the trip. But this time, he had ideas of his own. He was crazy and nuts, like we’ve never seen him before. The kids had so much fun that we stayed an extra day, which meant we had to go straight to chemo. As expected, his numbers took a hit, but watching him tackle the slide for the hundredth time made it worthwhile. The boy was born for the water. I recently posted (on my personal FB page) the article of the boy in China who lost his fight with brain cancer yet found a way to live on through selfless blessings for others. I updated with a disclaimer that while I realize it may seem insensitive, given our circumstances, I didn’t see it that way. Not a day goes by that we don’t recognize just how lucky we are. We are blessed beyond words to be where we are. Of course we wish things were different; we wish we weren’t living with cancer and all the heartache that comes with it. We are painfully reminded each week of how differently we could be living though. Cooper was diagnosed 7 months ago with a brain tumor. We didn’t know what kind, just that it wasn’t good. At the same time, a little girl not much older had just been diagnosed. Her family hoped for the NF diagnosis that we hadn’t yet come to understand, but would be given a few months later. Two stories: the same, yet so very different. Each week her treatment takes a toll on her. In these last months she has transitioned into a stroller-like wheelchair, requiring narcotics daily, and struggling to tolerate her chemo. Meanwhile, Cooper is maintaining and tolerating well. He’s not the 3-year old that he could be, but he’s also not the 5-year old that he could be either. So yes, we are thankful and ecstatic to be where we are! Every day is truly a gift for us all, and our only job is to not take that for granted. “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you” 1Thessalonians 5:18
