Smack dab in the middle of the Royals glory years, back when Hal McRae, Frank White, John Mayberry, Dan Quisenberry, Willie Wilson, Freddie Patek, Dennis Leonard, Paul Splitorfft, and oh yea... George Brett were part of the personnel. George and the boys went to visit Billy and the Evil Empire at Yankees Stadium in 1983. Brett had just hit a dramatic shot over the wall to put the Royals ahead of the nefarious Pinstripes when out of the dugout strolled Billy Martin. Martin spoke with the home plate umpire and convinced the, ahem..., gentleman that Bretts bat had an excessive amount of pine tar that extended beyond the allowed 18 inches beyond the knob of the bat. As a result, when the umpire disallowed the home run, Brett came streaking out of the dugout with the most classic apeshit look on his mug... Id like to say well played, Billy Martin, well played. Id like to, but I cant. Yankees suck - Yankees suck - Yankees suck - Yankees suck - Yankees suck - Yankees suck - Yankees suck - Yankees suck - Yankees suck - (ad infinitum)
