Small Rant: Today I was in a Columbus thrift store. You know me, I go to look at dresses for photography and naturally I have Millie with me. There was another mom and daughter about the same age as us at the end of the same isle. The little girl said, Mommy, look at this beautiful dress!! I wish I had this one! She was holding a beautiful wedding gown that was extremely pretty. It was something that 99% of females would agree was a beautiful dress. Without hesitation, the mom yanked it out of her daughters hand (again the little girl was like 5 years old maybe) and started screaming at her telling her to never say that again, she was ashamed in her daughter. At that given moment I felt a small piece in me die, not only did my heart break for this beautiful little girl who lost that sparkle in her eyes, but also for what the mom was doing to her daughter whether she knew it or not. I dont know what made her react that way but I was disgusted to see a mother tell her 5 year old daughter she was ashamed because her daughter wanted something that probably made her feel like a princess, most little girls dream of their wedding day until the day arrives. It is a milestone for most girls, whether they want to admits it or not. Society, you are failing--- We tell our children that it is not ok to love beautiful things and scream at 5 year olds who love a wedding dress. Inside are we yanking away the standards of what marriage is about? Being in a committed relationship and striving for a lifelong happiness is bad now, what was her point? Society does this, then wonders why our daughters are pregnant at such a young age and lack instability for a long time in life. Whatever happened to building strong foundation for our children to grow on? What are morals? I dont know. I am not trying to judge under any circumstance, however its hard to see a childs spirit broken so easily.
