Small Things Do Matter In the killing - TopicsExpress

Small Things Do Matter In the killing heat on a summer day I somehow managed to reach Crime branch office at Rajbagh. The police personnel posted near the office gate just next to reception counter started inquiring regarding my identity. I gently started introducing myself to the police wala. Meanwhile a sound from the reception counter inquiring my place of residence hit my ears. I loudly replied Uri, Baramulla. My two words changed the scene on the set. The police wala and receptionist both came to me and said sir please come we will assist you to Inspector General’s (IG)room. IG’s room, but why? I started asking myself. The police personnel started walking after and the other guy in the front. It seemed like I was some officer to them. After passing many stairs we finally reached IG’s room. They offered me a seat outside the room and apologized for waiting. One among the two entered the office with my name and residence on a slip duly written by me. Everything happening around was really a surprising as I had never witnessed the same in any office in Kashmir. Even I had visited office for a different purpose not to meet the IG. But the way I was being treated in the beginning I decided to take a ride to see what happens? Suddenly the guy came out and told me to enter the room. I had no idea what to discuss with the IG? I asked for the permission to enter the room and IG sahib gave me a big shock as he stood up to welcome me and started greeting me. What is going on? Me to myself. I entered the room and had a general discussion with IG sahib for some time. Then he inquired about my profile and all. We two had tea and I granted permission to take his leave and left the room. Outside the room a middle aged man was waiting for his turn to enter was gossiping with the IG ‘s attendant regarding their (IG’s) office schedule. The attendant said to the man that “we are being strictly advised not to stop any visitor. Even if we learn some visitor from Uri has come we assist him/her to this room. “How great personality he is,” the man replied. Their conversation cleared my all confusions and let me to come of this recent dilemma. I felt proud for IG and started respecting him for this his thinking and contribution for the society. That day I realized Kashmir needs Intellectuals and personalities like IG, the Raja Aijaz Ali Khan. His one quality I saw, changed my perception and I feel proud sharing it...
