Smart Animals One day my husband and I heard some sort of commotion on our back verandah, and looked through the window. Harry, our small dog, and Bert, our large cat, were on their hind legs, pushing and shoving each other in their efforts to be the first to climb into a bin that contained a bag of blood and bone set aside for gardening. While we watched, a huge rat quietly climbed on the far side of the bin, having already taken his pick of the best bits of the bone. He made himself scarce as quickly as possible and cautiously snuck off across the grass.
