Smashing The Glass Ceiling Welcome to The Club, an informal system by which money and power are stereotypically retained by wealthy white men through real or perceived, incestuous business relationships. I am not stating for a fact the intent, necessarily as purposeful or malicious, but the Good Old Boy’s Network in some cases can certainly prevent women and minorities from being truly successful in the business world. The Club entails establishing business relationships on ...high-priced golf courses, at exclusive country clubs, in the executive sky-boxes at sporting events, through private fraternities or social clubs. These are arenas from which stereotypically speaking women and minorities are traditionally excluded and in theory are not privy to the truly serious business transactions or conversations, in other words Its not what you know, its whom you know, the exclusivity of the metaphorical invitation to membership is for the sole purpose of preservation of the clichéd social elites. Let’s be real and face the facts, this invitation may never come our way. Figuratively speaking those of us wishing to be the cream that rises to the top, the mere thought of not being good enough to warrant an invitation can conjure traitorous feelings deep within our soul. On the other hand for those of us that wish to pursue this highly sought-after membership, without the benefit of a formal invitation, are destine to be the exception to the rule, we are the very ones guaranteed to face a steep long uphill journey filled with many seemingly insurmountable personal sacrifices, not to mention character defining obstacles. The big elephant in the room rarely acknowledged or asked, if you truly believe such an oppressive club exists why would you want the membership? Sometimes wanting is better than having as my grandmother used to tell me, or be careful what you wish for, you just might get it young lady. At the time in my life it was hard for me to fully grasp the concept of what she was telling me, but as the years went by her wisdom triumphed, unfortunately for me her wisdom didn’t reach my consciousness level until several years after I found myself eagerly pursuing a career in several Fortune 500 companies, working a typical 60-90 hour work week, at times the constant domestic and international travel was grueling, coupled with the pressure of stifling the rebel within, in order to play the corporate political read the rest of the story at buff.ly/1xZp9wS See More buff.ly/1xZp9wS
